Which is why you should rest so you can be prepared for such a thing.
[ Niah just pads along, but accidentally nudges a piece of strange glass... A memory comes.

You wait by the Han River, arms crossed and looking out into the dark waters. The monsters every once in a while prove their existence by peeking above the surface before diving back in... Every time you see something move in the corner of your eye, there's a little spring of hope to see someone—that man you dropped from the bridge into the water earlier. You're waiting to see if he would survive and crawl out of the depths, hacking up water, then you'd consider his proposal seriously.Oh. Joonghyuk doesn't like this. ]
This man...
He claimed to be your fan.
He claimed to be a prophet.
He claimed he wanted to be your companion.
His name is Kim Dokja.
This is your third day waiting by the shore... Another day that man hasn't shown up. Slowly, whatever hope and interest you had dwindles. It would have been nice to have a companion again.
[ Niah just lounges and lets her flop next to him. He doesn’t show interest, but doesn’t push away. That’s usually a good sign since that means she’s welcome. ]
With how we’re forced to interact with each other in each location, we’re bound to make some bonds. It’s the easiest way to sow cruelty and make a drama when someone kills another.
[ … ]
I did learn a new piece of information that is somewhat relevant—about our daemons.

[ Niah may turn a bit to groom Jib with a couple of small bites. ]
Yes.
[ Joonghyuk’s eyes are on the billiards as he waits. If they weren’t talking about important things, then he would be rushing Dokja to shoot already. ]
The soul is in flux until one reaches a certain age, as they explores themselves and learns who they are as a person. Once the soul "settles," their Dust settles with them, and opens them to a bigger threat.

You already know it was a test to see if you're worthy of being my companion.
[ Just that... Joonghyuk didn't think that Dokja would learn that he waited for him? Hopefully, maybe? Niah seems to scoot closer to Joonghyuk like they can have a joined front on this. ]

... I believe that the threat would normally mean spectres, based on what we learned in Cittagazze.
[ He doesn't let the conversation distract him from playing. Even without his legendary gamer attribute here, he's good at all types of games. He strikes a ball and i don't care to be specific about billiards. ]
But that world was without daemons. The children didn't seem to know anything about them.

[ Joonghyuk remembers this memory and it isn't that much of a big deal, though he does berate himself for foolishly trying to negotiate with Lee Seolhwa when she was possessed by a parasite. But then he frowns at how Dokja keeps... Getting coins? ]
... Uriel is a strange one. Stranger in that round than any other round.
[ Then: ]
You did not split the coins with me.

... I wouldn't know. I never cared to ask about daemons or souls until recently. They seemed out of place when it is just us and the Watchers with them, but every world we've been to has been without.
[ never gonna win, dokja, unless you get lucky. which, to be honest, you do get lucky. ]
It makes me wonder if this passage applies to us with daemons, despite not naturally being born with them.
